Our family resides in Northwest Indiana on Stoner Family Farms. I created this recipe years…
What is the name of your Farm, Ranch or Homestead?
Stoner Family Farms
Where are you located?
How and/or when did life as a farmer, rancher or homesteader begin for you?
I married into the farming lifestyle.
Who or what influenced you to become a farmer?
All of the matriarchs of my family & my husband’s family have been influential in this lifestyle. Although not all lived a farming lifestyle 100% of the time they all encompassed a homesteading mindset. Passing on desires such as canning & preserving food on to me.
What do you grow and/or raise?
Our main focus is the herd of 200+ lambs. Making our frozen lamb meat our main item at our local farmers market. But we also have honey & beeswax products, seasonal vegetables, baked goods & handmade goats milk soaps.
What resources do you find invaluable to the novice farmer?
Local Community is the absolute best & most important resource! But of course I also need to mention: Pinterest, YouTube, Ball Canning book & social media. I have learned a lot from being open to learning something in a new way & not always just using the traditional method passed down to me.
Do you have a favorite farm recipe you wish to share?
Of course that would be my Lamb Shepherd’s Pie recipe! Found in the FarmMade cookbook :)
What is at least one farm tradition you uphold?
Canning & preserving foods.
What inspires you to continue a farm-lifestyle?
My 3 young daughters. I see the valves & work ethic coming out in each of them. Makes me so proud.
What words of inspiration or uplifting wisdom do you hope to impart on the future generation of farmers, ranchers, beekeepers, and homesteaders?
It doesn’t matter how you got into farming/ranching. Learn as you go. Work hard. Love your family well.
Where can people find you/your farm products online?
